Fanboy 5: Top 5 Action Figures of 2019!

F5 Action Figures2019.jpg

As we welcome in 2020 I wanted to take a look back at my favorite action figures of 2019. This list consists of action figures from my personal collection that were released over the previous 12 months. There were a lot of awesome figures that were released last year and it was definitely a challenge to whittle it down to 5 top toys. My criteria was based on articulation, attention to detail, playability and really just how hard it was to put these toys down once they were in hand. This isn’t an end-all-be-all list, just my opinion based on the figures I purchased myself. Scroll down and see what action figures became my Fanboy 5 of 2019!

5. Emissary Predator 1 - The Predator by NECA

Starting off the list, at number 5, is the Emissary Predator 1 figure by NECA. This figure is based on the original 3rd act of Shane Black's The Predator released in September of 2018. The end of the film was re-shot, but action figures were made of the two Emissary Predators in military fatigues that were cut from the movie.

The Emissary Predator 1 is highly detailed, especially in the head-scuplt, like all NECA figures. It comes with four additional hands, an interchangeable masked head, and rifle accessories.

4. War Machine - Avengers Infinity War by Bandai

The most articulated figure on this list is the Avengers: Infinity War War Machine figure, by Bandai, comes in at Number 4. War Machine also comes with the so many accessories, like accessories that his display stand doubles as a storage box. With Bandai’s awesome articulation you can get Rhodey into Spider-Men level poses.

3. Badlands Vigilante - Dime Novel Legends by Chicken Fried Toys

Coming in at number 3 is the only 3 3/4" scale figure on the list. I'm a huge fan of Westerns so this is a toy I've wanted since I lost my Legend of the Lone Ranger action figure back in 1980. The Bad Lands vigilante has way more detail and articulation than his predecessor. The attention to detail on this, and the other Dime Novel Legends figures, is incredible for a figure of this scale. The figure has a removable hat, belt, scarf, and holster. Even his pistol and rifle have fine detail for 3 3/4 scale.

2. Heavy Infantry Mandalorian - Star Wars The Black Series by Hasbro

My number 2 figure for 2019 is a late in the year entry. This figure is based on the awesome Heavy Infantry Mandalorian, voiced by Jon Favreau, on the Disney+ show The Mandalorian. For a bulky 6" figure it is a surprisingly articulated toy. Right out of the box I was able to get him into awesome action poses without having to loosen his joints like with a lot of figures.

1. Tactical Suit Batman - Justice League by Mezco

We may not get another live action Justice League film, in our lifetime, but the awesome movie action figures will live on! The Tactical Suit Batman figure, by Mezco Toys, definitely ranks among the highest of those toys. It's highly detailed, and posable, with the most accessories of any figure on this list. Accessories include multiple hands, a grappling gun, parademon rifle, and two removable cowled heads with incredible likenesses of Ben Affleck for a 6" action figure. The detail of the fabric and plastic suit is extremely film accurate as well.
